Help Local Restaurants Thrive — In Their Language

What’s This About?

Sunnyvale is home to an extraordinary variety of restaurants, each with its own rich history, flavors, and traditions. Many of these businesses are owned and operated by community members who speak languages other than English as their primary language. While their culinary skills are world-class, language barriers can prevent them from accessing critical business resources, city connections, and marketing opportunities.
The Sunnyvale Chamber of Commerce is creating a bridge through the Cultural Business Outreach Program—an initiative designed to connect these restaurants to the Chamber’s powerful network by partnering with trusted leaders from their cultural communities.

Your Role as a Cultural Guide

As a Cultural Guide, you become the vital link between the Chamber and the restaurant owners in your community. Your responsibilities include:
  • Speaking with restaurant owners in their language, ensuring they feel understood and supported.
  • Explaining Chamber membership benefits in a way that’s culturally relevant and resonates with their needs.
  • Assisting with membership sign-ups and guiding them through their first steps as members.
  • Encouraging participation in Chamber networking events, cultural celebrations, and business workshops.
  • Advocating for your community’s needs within the Chamber to ensure their voices are heard in business discussions.

Why This Program Matters

When restaurants join the Chamber, they gain:
  • More Customers – Through targeted marketing campaigns, event promotion, and increased visibility to local residents and visitors.
  • A Stronger Voice – Representation in conversations with city officials, policymakers, and business leaders.
  • Growth Tools – Access to workshops, resources, and business education tailored to small business success.
  • Connections – Networking with other business owners, industry experts, and potential partners.

What the Chamber Provides to Guides

Cultural Guides will receive:
  • Official Recognition as a Cultural Business Outreach Partner.
  • Access to Networking with Sunnyvale’s business and civic leaders.
  • Training and Support Materials in both English and your community’s language to make outreach easier.

Your Commitment

To be most effective, Cultural Guides will:
  • Connect with 10–15 restaurants in their cultural community.
  • Hold brief one-on-one meetings or small group conversations to explain Chamber benefits.
  • Assist owners in completing membership applications and attending their first events.
  • Provide quarterly feedback to the Chamber on challenges and opportunities for the community’s restaurants.
